FAQs relalted to the technical aspects of vinyl wall decals, signage and signwriting

Are your wall decals reusable?

No, they are removable, but not reusable. Most reusable wall decals are a different type of product: they are a thick, sticker type material with a different adhesive, often with printed motifs. They are great as a very short term DIY experiment for children, where longevity of the decoration is not desired. Walls That Talk™ wall decals are manufactured to create a contemporary, designer, painted effect that will bring a smile to your face for years to come.

Are your wall decals removable?

Yes, they are removable and will not damage or leave residue on most surfaces. However, since there can be variations in paint used and quality and age of painted surfaces, we cannot guarantee the surface will be unaffected upon removal of the decal. If there is any remaining residue on the wall, it can easily be cleaned with sugar soap or similar product. If you are in doubt, you can test your surface with a wall decal vinyl sample. They available at a nominal cost of $0.99 for your selection of five colours. Please order them from the shop pages and specify your required colours in the comment section at checkout.

What surfaces can I NOT apply Walls That Talk™ wall decals to?

In a DIY application, we do not recommend applying our wall decals to any porous surface (ie. rendered walls), uneven surface (ie. textured tiles, uneven brick wall), textile (ie. silk wall paper, pin-up board). We do not recommend their use on wallpaper, due to potential damage to the wallpaper upon removal.

What surfaces can I apply Walls That Talk™ wall decals to?

Our wall decals are most often applied to interior walls, however you can apply them to any clean, smooth surface: windows, doors, floors, ceilings, mirrors, glass splash backs, shower screens, furniture, fridges, dishwashers, metal surfaces, cars, boats, laptops, phones – just to name a few. The compatibility of certain paints (particularly wash-and-wear, and those containing teflon) should be tested by the user prior to application of the wall decal. If  you would like a vinyl decal sample, they available from our shop pages at a nominal cost of $0.99 for your selection of five colours. Surfaces to which the wall decals are to be applied must be throughly cleaned (sugar soap is ideal for cleaning) and free from dust, grease or any contamination which could affect the adhesion of the wall decal. Freshly lacquered or painted surfaces should be allowed to dry for at least three weeks or until completely cured before the application of any decals.

Will I need special tools for wall decal application?

No. You might want to use some masking tape to work out the positioning of your design before applying your wall decal to the wall. For the wall decal application you can use a thin plastic card (a credit card is perfect). Once the wall decal is up, we recommend gently rubbing over it with a soft cloth to ensure correct adhesion.

How do we space the design when we are applying it on the wall?

Many of our wall decals come pre-spaced and attached to a clear application film. This makes application of text or small items easy. Larger items can be cut out and applied separately, so you can customise the wall decal to suit your space. For more information see wall decal application instructions.

Are your wall decals glossy or matte?

Walls That Talk™ designs have been specially created to achieve a painted effect in your interiors. In order to do that, we carefully selected a collection of thin, matte vinyl specifically manufactured for wall art. Our silver and gold colours have a metallic effect and are slightly glossier. While we believe this will give you the best result, full gloss finish vinyls are also available upon request. If  you would like a colour sample, they available from our shop pages at a nominal cost of $0.99 for your selection of five colours. Please e-mail us about your special requirements, so we can help you make the best decision.
